Guiding Values

People First

We are committed to centering patients and their perspectives in all that we do. Patients with deep lived experience with the problems we address develop and inform our roadmap, work as staff, and serve on our board.

Do No Harm

We know first hand that inappropriate denials are literally life and death for some. We refuse to prioritize speed or scale over quality. We are committed to achieving excellence without propagating the inequitable harms caused by wrongful denials for the most vulnerable.

We Won't Back Down

The fight to eradicate inappropriate health insurance denials is an uphill one, that faces relentless, extremely powerful opposition from billion dollar companies. We will not back down, and refuse to be silenced by those endangering the lives of our community members. We are steadfast in our commitment to fighting for people over profit.

Our Perspective

We believe all people should have affordable access to healthcare. Our system is unjust, especially for those with the least capacity to fight.

Healthcare as a Human Right

When denials are appealed, they are often overturned - suggesting that many denials are unjust. We believe access to healthcare should be based on need, not profit margins.

Systemic Change Through Action

Our vision targets root causes through influence on systemic levers:

  • Collective action:When enough people appeal, the economics of mass denial collapse.
  • Data-driven reform:Each case builds evidence to expose systemic harm.
  • Accountability:Our tools bring transparency to a system incentivized to operate in the shadows.

Creating a Cascade Effect

Our approach creates a cascade: scaling appeals, improved visibility, and applied pressure that drive systemic change. Our vision is about more than helping individuals; it's about ending systemic harms.

How We're Different

Our approach combines human expertise, empathy, and community with advanced technology to transform healthcare access in ways that weren't possible before.

Nonprofit

We prioritize patients over profits. We avoid conflicts of interest and perverse incentives, and are committed to transparency and accountability. Our values will never be sold to the highest bidder. Our roadmap will never blindly follow investor money.

Patient Centered

Supporting patients is our first priority. We directly involve patients in our work, as board members, staff, and contributors to our product design and organizational development.

Technology Driven, Human Focused

We have deep expertise in machine learning, and we use it responsibly to serve the most vulnerable. We are optimistic about the benefits technology can bring to our work, and critically aware of the potential harms of irresponsible deployment.

Focused on Systemic Change

We focus on building evidence to drive systemic change, so that someday our direct service will become unnecessary. We are committed to sharing our learnings and tools with the broader community, and realizing change.

Our Board

We are a group of people committed to improving US healthcare.
